DishPointer Maps app good for
As a cameraman for several networks, this app has become an invaluable tool for getting quick uplink time. Often times I get to a story location before my sat truck arrives and the Dishpointer app has allowed me to help him get situated once, quickly without a lot of guess work. Being able to locate a satellite and find obstructions without having to set up a dish helps us all save time and aggrevation. Nothing is worse than getting a huge satellite truck into a spot and finding that you cant get a good signal. Thank you DP!!
This app is great. It has saved me from having to do "Test Setups" on many occasions. For those who say the mapping is "buggy", that would be Googles problem. The app is well designed and once Google pefects their mapping technology any so called bugs will go with it. For that matter I have used it daily and have yet to see the so called "Buggy" behavior.
DishPointer Maps is an ideal app for professionals planning out strategy for a site before actually visiting it. The app superimposes a line from your proposed dish location to your desired satellite onto a Google satellite-view map, enabling you to see in advance the kinds of obstructions you are likely to encounter.
DishPointer also makes AR Pro, the ideal app for once you’re on site. You hold the iPhone up in the air and AR Pro turns on the iPhone camera, then superimposes the locations of each satellite, giving you the illusion that you “seeing” the satellites hanging in the sky. Move around in real time until nothing is between you and the satellite and you’re set.
Both the above apps are aimed at professionals. RVers and homeowners should check out DishPointer AR (aka, DishPointer Augmented Reality). Not as elaborate as these apps for installers and broadcasters, it fully covers the needs of the non-professional and has the same slick augmented-reality feature of the Pro version.
Cant believe there is no reviews for this app! This is a very great mobile app for satellite location. Absolutely love it!! When in doubt, this is a great app when no computer is around! I use it all the time for actual jobs. Great job DishPointer!
Some bad moments
Im a television engineer, and this would be a fantastic tool for me but the map interface is buggy and unusable, it just took me almost 15 minutes to get my location correctly positioned over my dishes. Trying to adjust the map brings unpredictable results and blank screens requiring me to close out the app and start over on my new 3Gs. I feel like I just got ripped off $7.99 for an unusable app that should be in beta.
This apps not worth the cost. It has less features than going directly to the web site. You cant select the satellites by name. It needs a major update. Trying to control or select your location is a problem.
Dont waste your money like I did. It does not work. Yes it shows you a line towards a satellite or something but my dish would never pick it up. It needs to be FREE!!!
Dont waste your money on this useless App. It would not work on my IPhone Four. Just another rip off and no way to get your money back.
It is called Dish Pointer... Really? Does not work as advertised ... not worth paying... but it does attach to Google Maps pretty good.
While I am thankful for this companies web site. This app is useless, you cannot enter what type of satellite system you have, so the settings it gives are incorrect for my hd Directv system at the campgrounds. I deleted the app from my phone very disappointing wish I could get my money back.
